Best feeding tool - by Tony Silva

With the baby season in full swing, I get many messages from breeders asking what is the best feeding tool.

Some utilize a small syringe with a teat infusion cannula attached, others a fine gavage needle and yet others a pipette.

I prefer a spoon with the sides bent upwards. It has a natural feel; the chicks swallow at their own pace like they would from their parents and as the sides of the spoon touches the commissures of the mouth, a pumping action is created. When experienced, the process is quick and efficient.
