Their eggs or chicks are entrusted to foster parents, preferably of the same species. If the chicks cannot be raised by surrogates of the same species, there are also other compatible species that perform their task very well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This practice can be, in turn, combined with other methods such as artificial incubation or hand-raising carried out by our specialized staff. In this sense, adoptive parents can increase the guarantees of embryonic development by performing the initial phase of natural incubation. The Major Mitchell cockatoos,&nbsp;<em>Cacatua leadbeateri<\/em>, have successfully raised us, on several occasions, to small Gang-Gang cockatoos,&nbsp;<em>Callocephalon fimbriatum<\/em>. As well the Red and green Macaw (<em>Ara chloropterus<\/em>) have successfully raised chicks of Hyacinth Macaws,&nbsp;<em>Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus<\/em>, or Lear\u2019s Macaws, (<em>Anodorhynchus leari<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"538\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wwbirds.co.za\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Curator-of-birds-Marcia-Weinzett.jpg\" alt=\"Curator of birds Marcia Weinzett\" class=\"wp-image-4730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wwbirds.co.za\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Curator-of-birds-Marcia-Weinzett.jpg 538w, https:\/\/www.wwbirds.co.za\/dir\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Curator-of-birds-Marcia-Weinzett-300x215.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 538px) 100vw, 538px\" \/><figcaption>Curator of birds Marcia Weinzettl in front of the cage with foster parents and their babies<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout this season there are several species that have been successful with this method, highlighting, especially, the chicks of Purple-bellied Parrots,&nbsp;<em>Triclaria malachitacea<\/em>, that have just jumped out of the nest under the watchful eye of a couple of adoptive parents of Sun-Conures ,&nbsp;<em>Aratinga solstitialis<\/em>, and, not only them, also our curator Marcia Weinzettl has also monitored this process supervised by her.
