Significant improvement in the plumage of hand-raised Red-lored amazons<\/a> after using Harrison\u2019s\u00ae premium certified organic pet bird foods with Palmgloss\u00ae addition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Red-lored amazon (Amazona autumnalis) Steffi hatched in 2020 and was reared with commercially available hand-rearing food from day one. The breeder has decades of experience in this field and has relied on advertising in the relevant specialist magazines when choosing hand-rearing food. Steffi was raised without any problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the clinical examination of Steffi in January 2021 in the Veterinary practice for parrots, Dr. Janeczek (www.janeczek.de) the veterinarian description of Steffi\u2019s plumage as \u201csmooth, but without shine, numerous feathers are punctiform or colored black at the edge\u201d (see photo). The endoscopic examination showed a slightly enlarged liver with a slightly yellowish color. Based on these findings, the diagnosis of chronic liver dysfunction was made, mainly due to an unbalanced and fatty diet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this examination, Steffi\u2019s nutrition was first converted to Harrison\u2019s\u00ae High Potency coarse and after a few months on Harrison\u2019s\u00ae Adult Lifetime coarse. Both food types were mixed with 10 ml Palmgloss\u00ae (www.avifood.com) per 450 g feed. Steffi responded positively to this food improvement, and the regrowing feathers are bright green without a blackish color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The following photos show Steffi in winter 2020\/2021 before the food conversion and in June 2021 in the current molting, although not all brownish feathers were replaced by new brightly colored feathers yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In order to demonstrate the clear connection between the plumage quality or plumage color and the quality and composition of the hand-rearing food in the parrot chicks, two Red-lored amazon chicks from the offspring in 2021 of the same breeding pair at the same breeder were fed from day 1 after hatching with Harrison\u2019s\u00ae\u00b4handfeeding formulas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
