About World Wide Birds: Our mission is: To provide information about aviculture, conservation and birding for the wellbeing and conservation of birds all over the world.
Petrus Albertus van Tonder
I am the founder and publisher of World Wide Birds magazine that get distributed all around the world.
Based in South Africa, my passion for birds can be traced back to primary school, where I spent significant time reading about birds and implemented what I learned. Birds fascinated me and as a keen bird watcher, I spent a lot of time in the bush and gardens, looking to identify any birds from books taken from the library.
Through the years I gained a lot of experience and information about birds. Combining this with my IT knowledge, I am in the position to bring you this magazine. I am focused and dedicated to the well-being of all birds by bringing you information where birds can be happy and healthy.
My aviculture experience:
With more than 40 years of experience in aviculture, I have cultivated a deep understanding of bird behavior, health, and breeding practices. My experience spans:
- Breeding: Successfully breeding various species, including African Grey Parrots, Budgies, Cockatiels, Finches, etc., ensuring healthy and well-socialized offspring.
- I learned a lot with my active involvement at different parrot clubs such as the Pretoria Parrot Club.
- Member of the Parrot Breeders Association of Southern Africa.
- Bird Care: Providing avicultural husbandry techniques and top-tier care, including diet management, enrichment, and health monitoring, to ensure our birds live long, happy lives.
- Education: Sharing my knowledge through blog posts, articles, and one-on-one consultations, helping bird owners provide the best care for their feathered friends.
- Conservation: Actively participating in and supporting bird conservation efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats.
My birding experience:
- I visit a lot of birding sites to photograph birds and to give feedback about the birding experience in blog posts.
- I actively contribute to the Southern African rare birds report.
