Welcome to the August edition of World Wide Birds Magazine!

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Gonubie Bird Sanctuary for organising the Nikon photography course on that day. The course inspired me to spend more time using my camera properly and motivated me to improve my bird photography skills. I look forward to sharing many more of my own photographs with you in future editions of the magazine.
Finding the time is often the biggest challenge! Behind every edition of World Wide Birds is a great deal of work. Besides producing the magazine each month, I am also creating YouTube videos, writing and publishing new blog posts, managing the website, sending email newsletters, developing my biodiversity project to attract more birds to my micro-patch, promoting World Wide Birds across social media, photographing birds, and continually expanding the collection of free educational resources available online. It is certainly a busy schedule, but seeing more birds visit the garden and hearing from readers around the world makes every hour worthwhile.

Building a Bird Paradise | Bird-Friendly Gardening for biodiversity
Follow my journey as I transform an ordinary garden into a thriving bird paradise using bird-friendly plants, nectar-rich flowers, flowering shrubs, indigenous plants, and wildlife-friendly gardening techniques. This playlist documents the ongoing creation of a biodiversity garden designed to attract birds, bees, butterflies, dragonflies, beneficial insects, and other wildlife, proving that even a small space can make a meaningful contribution to nature. Whether you have a large garden, a small backyard, courtyard, balcony, patio, or container garden, these videos are packed with practical ideas that can help you create a welcoming habitat for wildlife.
Every new flower, shrub, tree, bird feeder, and water source helps transform this growing garden into a sanctuary where birds and pollinators can feed, shelter, and thrive throughout the year. Throughout this series, you’ll see me planting a wide variety of bird-friendly flowers and shrubs, including nectar-rich plants that attract sunbirds, flowering plants that support bees and butterflies, and evergreen shrubs that provide food and shelter for many different bird species. I also share gardening tips, planting techniques, container gardening ideas, soil preparation, composting methods, deadheading flowers, pruning, and general garden maintenance as I continue expanding this wildlife-friendly space. Along the way, you’ll meet many of the incredible birds that visit the garden, including sunbirds, weavers, barbets, hornbills, starlings, bulbuls, doves, white-eyes, hoopoes, fiscals, mannikins, and many other fascinating South African bird species. Each sighting demonstrates how biodiversity gardens provide valuable food, shelter, nesting opportunities, and safe places for wildlife.
This playlist also follows the successes, challenges, and surprises that come with creating a living ecosystem. You’ll see how different bird species interact with flowering plants, how pollinators respond to seasonal blooms, and how simple gardening decisions can have a positive impact on local biodiversity.
