Native to the Mediterranean region, from Morocco and Portugal in the west to Syria, Lebanon, and Turkey in the east.
Description:
Used as a leaf vegetable for its fresh peppery flavor. The petals are creamy-white with purple veins, and the stamens are yellow. A pungent, leafy green vegetable.
Nutritional Value:
Rich in calcium, Vitamins K, A, and C, and potassium. Contains phytochemicals, fiber, and chlorophyll.
Feeding:
Raw or boiled. But raw is much better because cooking will drastically reduce nutrients. Add to chop. Like all foods, it must be washed thoroughly.
Discussing rocket for birds:
- Similar to watercress in flavor, spicy and fresh taste. Lower in oxalates than spinach and other leafy greens.
