Is hemp seed oil good for birds

Hemp seed oil is obtained by pressing hemp seeds. Cold-pressed, unrefined hemp oil is dark to clear light green in color, with a nutty flavor. The darker the color, the grassier the flavor.

It has an ideal balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Hempseed oil is low in saturated fat and rich in polyunsaturated fat.

Hemp seed is a super seed and is highly recommended in the dietary change for parrots that pluck.

From Margie Frayne:

Hemp seed – which comes from the C. sativa plant, is good for your birds. The seed is known to be very high in plant protein (30%) and easily digested. It has a high oil content (around 50%) and the essential oils Omega 3 and Omega 6, vitamins & minerals. It, therefore, provides excellent nourishment, lots of energy, and is immune protective. Hemp seed can be purchased from a good seed merchant along with the other small seeds for your birds. Add not more than 5% to the overall mix of seeds. Or you might even buy a seed mixture that has hemp seed in it. Due to its high oil content, it can go rancid very easily and should be kept in a fridge.
