Aloe Vera is a natural de-wormer

Aloe Vera has long been used for its natural medicinal properties.
It will help clear the blood of some toxins. It is a natural laxative that helps with constipation. Despite its laxative properties it can also aid with diarrhea.
The greatest benefit for your birds – Aloe is useful for treating candidiasis and intestinal parasites.
My suggestion is to grow your own Aloe Vera plant. Or you can buy aloe vera leaves at many grocers and health food stores.
How to prepare and feed:
- Carefully strip off a couple of leaves.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the leaves into narrow strips. Make sure to leave the center “gell” in place.
- Place the strips into a bottle with clean filtered water.
- Initially, the strips will float on top of the water. Within the next 24-36 hours, as the aloe gel is absorbed in the water, it will start to sink. When all strips sink to the bottom of the bottle the Aloe water is ready to use.
- Use Aloe Water as the sole source of drinking water for 7 days.

On the topic of spraying our parrots. Please Please note- particularly our South African Parrot Peeps- NOT ALL ALOES ARE ALOE VERA. Aloe is a HUGE family/genus of plants, with many cousins, aunties, and uncles.
As with human families- some of the family members of Aloe have a bit more of a toxic personality than the others, some very nasty indeed.

In Florida, there is an aviary of two hundred rescued parrots where slices of fresh aloe are served on a regular basis. Although these birds have come from a variety of circumstances with a large assortment of ailments, the owner attributes their current lack of health problems in large part to the healing effects of aloe. Parrots sometimes suffer digestive and intestinal disorders, and aloe is the most healing of all herbs for these problems.
Add to that its beneficial effects on the immune system, and you may want to add pure aloe juice to their water every two or three days as a preventive medicine if you do not grow your own plants. I feed thin slices of the largest stalks from my aloe plants several times a week. When a bird appears to be feeling unwell, a slice or two of fresh aloe or one part pure aloe juice to three parts drinking water can swiftly make a positive difference in the demeanor and activity level of the bird. Aloe Vera has been determined to contain substantial amounts of over thirty-nine essential minerals and vitamins and all of the amino acids. Out of over 150,000 botanicals, aloe vera is the only one that contains so many nutrients essential to man’s existence.
