Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve birding: Endemics, Access and facilities
Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve for birding is located at Nahoon beach in East London. It is famous for its safe and clean trails that take you through trees, mangrove swamps, and along the river. Access is free. There are two bird hides. A non-profit organization, Friends of Nahoon Estuary, can be joined to get a key for access.
There are three endemic species, the Cape Cormorant, Cape Shoveller, and the African Black Oystercatcher. As well as three red data species, the white-backed night heron, the black stork, and the Caspian tern. A total of 202 bird species have been recorded in the Nahoon Estuary Nature Reserve. It is an important stayover for migrant birds.
The entrance is easy to find with good sign boards that can be viewed from the street:

A notice that the gate will be locked at 16:00 and that all vehicles need to be out. But if you join Friends of Nahoon Estuary, you can get a key for access.

There are various notice boards inside the estuary:

There is a bird hide close to the entrance that has a waterval birdbath for some great photography.

This is the bottom entrance of the same bird hide:

When you walk through the trail, there are benches where you can listen to birds and take photos:
